MAGA for Bernie Sanders

My step-uncle is a maga-tea party republican. Guns, fuck Obama, build the wall, and so on. The rest of the family leans in the same direction. But he did say something very interesting. He said that he would've voted for Bernie Sanders, if he didn't like the Republican candidate. Which means that, there's overlap between the two. The soft populism of Trump, and social democracy of Bernie Sanders are compatible. Don't believe it?

He's saying the same stuff here, that Trump did during his campaign. He's just arguing it in a more civil, and more coherent manner. The Republican variant won, because the Democrats are completely committed to neo-liberal capitalism. Whereas the Republican voter is looking for something new.
This provides an interesting opportunity for movements that aren't mild. But you have to understand that, the proletariat is more conservative socially. So, you'll have to make a compromise on that front. Socialists may have embraced bourgeois norms, but the people haven't for the most part. Class based thinking will be a more effective means of conversion. The neo-liberals have tricked the Left into using identity based thinking. Which has only benefit them, and big business. Effective change will not come from demonizing another group of working people. Identity politics was created to divide the poor.
